Pots
In the past my work has been influenced by ancient civilisations; Roman, Greek and Native American.
The white crackle glaze set of pots are Raku fired-an exciting, outdoor firing using a gas kiln. The pieces are plunged into cold water after removal with tongs from the kiln. This gives the crazed effect. Next the piece is placed in sawdust to smoulder, giving the darker colours, enhancing the craze.
The set of black pots are burnished. Originally made in terracotta, the clay is compressed, thus polished with small, circular motions using the back of a spoon whilst leather hard before smoke firing. This technique gives the pottery it's lustrous shine.
